With nothing better to do I thought I'd add another page to keep me amused.. This one is to document the various little projects that I do to keep me occupied when I'm not at work...

The Man Room.

With 3 Women sharing the house with me I thought it was about time I made some kind of hiding place where I can hang out & do "stuff". Yes, I know the Garage is the traditional Man's room but my Wife decided it was also a good place to hang out & smoke. Even as a non smoker it actually was not that big of a deal, so I was ok with it, but I should have known better. First it was a comfy chair, (she actually wanted a sofa, yes, really), then some carpet, (the floor is cold), then a microwave oven (to warm her coffee). I sense a TV & Satellite receiver may be on the cards next so she can watch Oprah.. Oh, she also wants me to re-decorate, tidy up the wiring & re paint the walls & ceiling. I'm going to have to draw the line if she asks me to paint it pink..

Anyway I digress, we had yet another spare room right in the bowels of the house which has served as a junk room for the past couple of years ever since I re-did the rest of the Basement (see the Home Theatre page). I always thought it would make a decent Office/Workshop but a couple of months ago finally decided to quit thinking about it & just do it..

For once I didn't have to gut the room entirely so I decided to just strip the existing crap off the walls, & fill any holes & dents. It actually made a nice change not to have to do any major construction. I also decided to get rid of the nasty old carpet & install laminate flooring. I was pleasantly surprised to find just what I wanted, a maple effect wood grain at the Home Depot for only 77 cents per square foot, a veritable bargain for sure. It was the first time I'd used laminate flooring but I'm really pleased how it clicked together, you really cannot see the joints..

My eldest Daughter had a nice corner computer desk in her bedroom which had certainly seen better days but it was perfect for my needs so with some left over laminate I resurfaced the top. A bit of black paint on the edges & it looks like new & fits in well with the room decor.

I also needed a workbench / desk, I didn't want a regular office desk which would have been too easy but i needed something that was substantial enough to carry a bit of weight if required. Like my Kawasaki engine for instance, not kidding, but I won't be getting oil & grease everywhere.
